Thing #14

I have used Technorati in a previous lesson, so I was familiar with it. I searched the Blog posts, tags, and directory for School Learning Library 2.0 and I did not find anything about it. It showed Harvard library, and libraries in general. There was nothing but a sign in the Widget and the popular section due to a site upgrade, I guess.

Technorati could be an useful tool for teachers and librarians,(and everyone else), as a search tool and also to keep updated of current issues, as a source of general information and research.

What I found out is that the tags for Delicious are created by you to help you organize with their help as a search engine and on Technorati, they are there just as a search engine! I did a couple of searches using their tags. One was "kindle"and it came up with a definition, history, types of kindles, sales, etc. I also looked at facebook and got the same a definition, history, number of users, etc.
What I like about tagging is that it makes it more accessible to find information without having to remember one specific file name. Also, I can access the site from any computer to bookmark new ones or find my old ones. So far de.licio.us and Flickr are my favorite ones.

I really liked delicious. It really is delicious! This is an amazing resource for the classroom, library or even home. I loved the music tag, the video tag, the education tag, etc., etc. I can find lots of ideas on whatever and whenever I need it. I opened an account and placed ten tags of my own file to share with other teachers. The benefits of this site for EVERYONE is countless, not only for teachers and librarians, for the info is at our fingertips. I'll definitely use Delicious in my profession as well as in my personal life for research, projects and even for entertainment .

Thing # 12

I agree with Cool Cat comments in Blogging like a queen or King where she gives advise on how to blog, i.e., comments should be meaningful and polite. I like constructive criticism where one can learn from one another to make useful the time spent at blogging. I have read a few blogs that show negative views on groups of people or issues and even though bloggers have the right to their opinions, they can be hurtful and distasteful so I think it is a waste of precious time reading them. On the other hand, there are some blogs that are encouraging and educational like those that I found in the Library thing. I enjoy reading this type of blogs although I don't usually comment on them (yet), I like to know what is going on in cyberspace minds. "10 Techniques to Get More Comments on Your Blog" has good tips on how to get more out of your blog, I'll definitely use some of them in the future to experiment and see what results I get.

Thing # 11

Now I have created an account with Library Thing and began making a wish list. It is a great site to have a book talk with people that share common reading interests. Also, I read several book reviews and book recommendations which is a feature that l like from this site. This site will be useful for me to organize my personal books and my classroom library.

Thing # 10

Finally!!!! I was able to place this cartoon in my blog. For some reason, it did not want to download.
I think students could use this site to make a book or lesson review to summarize important facts. Librarians could use this site to create comics to highlight new books or special events coming up. Check it out!

Which Search tool was the easiest for you? Topix.net was the easiest news feeds for me to search the current events. This search engine located me in Houston and presented information relevant to my community. It also allowed me to search further to other places and categories. I also liked the article "How to create your circle of the wise" It took me to technorati where I was able to find interesting articles. I subscribed it to my RSS reader.

Which was more confusing? Syndic8.

What kind of useful feeds did you find in your travels?
I also liked Atomic Learning because I can always find technology tutorials that I may need.
